(LUqman:12)

Altimeter on action

Last Monday, we batch 4 student have a class conducted by Mej. B Abu Bakar. During his teachings, everything is just as being thought recently, bored. Bored because of not have any idea to ask for or questioned except for Hanifah n Azlan. They both stayed at the front and keep always asked to Major for the topic on that day. That time we have discussion on altimeter. Suddenly, he rush out and told us " I'll get u the altimeter so u can understand perfectly". A couple of minutes then he enter the classroom and bring 2 things, one is bulky altimeter and another is the interior gear that generates the indicator of the altimeter.

As already know , altimeter is used for measure the altitude of an object above fixed level. Inside it, as you can see, an aneroid barometer measures the atmospheric pressure from a static port outside the aircraft

This picture show to us the true view of aneroid barometer, couple with the gears and also springs.

By look further through wikipedia, the altimeter itself is calibrated to show the pressure directly as an altitude above mean sea level, in accordance with a mathematical model defined by the International Standard Atmosphere (ISA).
Nice. Really made from brass, I think.
The smallest pointer on the scale reading used as the scale adjustment knob turns out at specific value, usually done by the pilot. The other pointer, the longer one, used to read hundredth to thousandth feet. The shorter pointer is pointed when readings have to showed thousandth to ten times thousand feet above, ( measured from mean sea level)
