Cable splicing- nicopress methods ...

Have you seen this type of cable before? This is the cables with different termination technique for the purpose of connecting the cable controls in aircraft. They are fit , durable and could maintain to full cable strength. To do this, things must be have is like cable cutter, gono-go gauge, caliper, nicopress sleeve and tools, and pliers also.

The center of the compression made first(with this tools) , then the compression nearest to thimble , and finally the compression at the end of the sleeve . After all the 3 compressions made, they are checked with special gauge. If they are properly made, the sleeve exactly fit the slot.
Cable that has been cut then goes to other process- swaging and nicopress

More details can be pursuit here

Engines...pistons...jets..

Too much things just happened week by week. All of sudden I began to slow on posting new article to this blog. Well many things I have to figured out..until now . From the exam on module 4.. come to the car breakdown (what..my car?) then back to reseat the module 3 test( when will it be?)…riveting panel…This then contribute me to become lazy to updating my blog…. But Alhamdulillah..I mange to skip this ‘lazy’ by posting this article by this morning. Hope u would like it. It is about training that I have done 4 to 5 weeks ago…
Sorry about that…..I will posting another training later….

What Engines?

The engines that we make on training are the piston and the turbine. During our training on piston engine, we've been given task to measure parts of the engine whether some parts still can be use or not. This include piston bore clearance, piston pin, valve and the connecting rod. The tools that we use to measure this parts including dial bore indicator, ruler, Vernier caliper, micrometer etc.

What about the turbine? Yes,
we do our practices on turbo shaft engine( Avco corporation Lycoming T-53, ). Practices that we made have two, first is the assembled/disassembled the tachometer generator.

See the difference between this two pictures? One is T-53 L-1 and another is T-53 L-13

What's that?

Well, this tachometer is the part containing the gear and the generator that use for generate the rpm gauge from the engine turbine rotation.

Tachometer that being disassembled

The second one is remove/installing the tank from the engine. We done that on Rolls Royce Viper 522 turbojet engine. Though this is an easy task but to install this tank back to its place is the difficult one. Actually, after installing back the tank using wrench n sprockets ,tank must also be tie up with using the locking wire. The locking wire (or what generally say as safety-wiring methods) basically must be tied up within 2 to 3 drilled head bolts, but some parts may be wired up to 12 to 20. That’s all depends on which panel do have the vibration like engine ..motors etc .

Types and methods of locking wires; can be on the nut or the bolt

If wrong direction the locking wire being placed, the bolt will be loosen easily. For that reason it must be remove and replace with the new one. Locking the wire must be done tightly to the bolt by using the pliers. The directions and position to make locking wiring you can find out more from this site..

Know the safety wire twisters?...well I'm actually not get used to it. It is like the pliers but have the capability to twist the locking wire in a short time. Next time ,when I have a chance to do this wire locking...I will try this pliers..

The wiring project

Last Thursday, 14 Jan, we have been delivered new task to be done in lab. The task is simple. Cut the wire insulator, crimping the other parts of the wire, twisted the wire, soldered it, cover that area with the tube insulator and shrink it with heater. But all the task must be done surely by follow the labsheet that have been given to us. Here is how we do it...

Both wire are twisted. Surely have to make it tight and grip well
Soldered onto its surface. To make this perfectly, one must heat the wire first and then soldered it.

The solder wire connection covered with shrinking tube. Then exposed onto the heater gun so that the shrinking tube shrink and grip nicely.
